Translating ZS4

we have created a program which allows the translation of t@b user interface from english to the language of the computer on which the software is running. it can be downloaded from http://devel.zs4.org

using the program

use the tree view of t@b classes to reach object classes for translation. the right hand pane will then show one or more pairs of strings for each object class. the left stringbox being the "short" translation and the right one a one-sentence elaboration.
the output of the program will be stored in the folder ~/t@b/0.957/bin/686/release/c/t/en/, where ~ represent your "home" (My Documents) folder, the 0.957 bit might be replaced by the latest version string and the last part "en" would be replaced by your language code, for example "de" for german. On windows the folder is "....\Program Files\t@b\v0.957\686\c\t\mylang".
the location of most user interface items in the class tree is object->gfxobject->grafix->surface->gadget. any (sub-)subclass starting with "mm" is very likely to be a zs4 user interface object.

one way to determine which object of the object tree needs translation is to run zs4, hover with the mouse pointer overtop of a button or other user interface item and press either CTRL or ALT, which will result in a "tooltip" where anything before the dot/period is a class name from the class tree gadget area.

packaging your translation

it seems most appropriate to compress/package the directory "~/t@b/0.926/bin/686/release/c/t/en/" (windows: ""....\Program Files\t@b\v0.957\686\c\t\mylang"") mentioned above. because every new release of zs4 is installed into a new subdirectory of ~/t@b/(version-no/). Subsequent versions will usually have a class or two more in addition to the classes of a previous version. Like with the software itself, it should make sense to re-package/re-distribute a translation *.zip or *.tar.gz file for every binary release version. Please note though: the translation files are "multiplatform" files and the packages should be compressed using a method that can be easily unpacked on all systems (no osx "bundles", for example).

Of course any translation made by a third party is owned and controlled completely by the translator.
t@b will provide the visitors of our website with links to websites which serve zs4 translations (in the "language" section of zs4.net. We had more than 1 million downloads of zweistein 3.01 and we are likely to top that number sooner or later with zs4) .
If translators do not have web resource, we have the ability (upon request) to provide them with blog space and personal exposure/promotion on zs4.net. Under discussion are also subdomains like "translatorname.zs4.net".
