I tried to install the new version on my Windows 2k machine, but it returned an error message stating that the header was corrupted. Not to be intimidated I then tried it on my Umbuntu Linux machine (running Hoary Hedgehog on an AMD Athlon XP). When I tried to run the executable, absolutely nothing happened. Am I missing something here? I am new to linux, but well on the learning path, can someone help me out here?

No, it actually didn't. I also had no problem with the older version on my Windows machine, but I only use that one to try out the NLEs because it's easier to install. I have had problems with dependencies on other editors with Linux (always need some lib file that seems to have come from outer space). Just wish I could get one decent editor to work on linux.

If a windows install failes, the most frequent reason is a failed "download". typically one can double check the size of the download file at http://devel.zs4.net/zweistein_win32.html for windows and http://devel.zs4.net/zweistein_linux.html for linux.

if the linux installer fails, an other way to get around that is to use the "manual" distro at http://devel.zs4.net/zs4distro_linux.html (comments at that page).

OK, I managed to get the install going on my linux machine. It processed all the way to 99% then issued the following complaint:

99.00%: launching "/root/tmp/t@b/3295052/INSTALL.sh".
ref_gui.Construct(guifltk) failure.
Any ideas here?
btw I want to thank everyone here for being sooooo helpful.

we had something like this before. will check this out. if the guifltk plugin didn't work, it should've tried tabfltk.

This failure in essence means that there is no usable zs4 gui (qt,fltk,x11) driver that will run on your system. the only hope then seems to be the http://devel.zs4.net/zs4distro_linux.html route. i'm not sure yet about what to do...

fltk

I did have to install the fltk libraries to get this far, so i know they're in the system, but the ./ZS4 command does not work on this debian dist. I had to type /home/larry/t@b......to get it to work at all. Was this a bad move?

if the following does not work, hope is lost until we can make a ubuntu specific build for zs4:

download this file: http://devel.zs4.net/t@b_zs4distro_linux_686_0509011748.tar.gz. (It is from http://devel.zs4.net/zs4distro_linux.html)
unpack it anywhere you like.
on a command line terminal, change the current directory to "unpack-location/filez/" using the "cd" (change directory) command.
Type the following command: "./zs4.sh" and hit return. (it is important to also type the dot-slash at the beginning.)

If this will not launch the zs4 application. i might have to get me an ubunto distribution...
