Can't even import a clip...

Bummer of a way to start off. I've installed the Windows 0.938 version of ZS4, and chose a clip from the tree displayed by the file menu.

I have found elsewhere in the forum that video files with audio can take some time to load, so I was not too surprised to see a very slow-moving 'anaylse progress' bar show up. I was surprised to find it at 88% some eight hours later, and apparantly not progressing.

At that time, I noted that the green arrow was lit, so I dragged it to the project tree, and saw the first frame in the media mixer.

However, I canot play the clip in the import window, or trim it - and the wave display never appeared.

The clip is a DV encoded D1 .avi file, about 4 minutes long. Is an eight-hour plus loadtime expected? If so, does that scale, so that I'd need days to load a feature-length movie?

If not, what might I be doing wrong?

I am running WinXP on an Athon XP 2100+ 1.54 GHz w/256 MB ram.

For a 4 minute file it would normally take a minute or three to finish scanning the audio (depending how fast your computer is).
Sometimes the progress bar sticks at 80 something percent but you can still drag the file (using the green arrow) into the track arrangement area at which point the wave form should show up, if its a ZS4 readable file.
You can also try clicking the audio tab to see if it appears.

If the wave form didn't show up for you and you weren't able to play back the file in the import tab, might it be because your footage was DV type-1?
ZS4 can only read type-2 DV files.

They were in fact DV Type 1 files. Had to recapture as type 2, but those new caps load OK.
