Beginner Stumped Importing Video

I have just installed ZS4 v.0.958.  I am running Windows XP Pro.  I'm stumped right at the start.  I want to import and edit a DVD.  It's a private DVD I had made from a video tape, so it's not copy-protected.  Anyway, I have no clue how to bring it in to ZS4.  I tried dragging and dropping it into the top window from an explorer window.  That went nowhere: there was some disk activity for a few seconds, then nothing.  The DVD has about 12 min. of video/audio.

How do I get started?

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I honestly have no idea how to import video. I tried clicking on video files in open, but nothing seems to work.

Hi, You can't import

Hi,

You can't import directly sequences from DVD or VOB files to ZS4.
What I'm doing, is using avidemux to extract all the video sequences I want to add in my project.
For that I copy the VOB files on my hard drive, then open them with avidemux and
save the sequence in AVI using video codec Xvid (bitrate 10000) and audio codec AC3 (MP3 is not recognized in ZS4).

Once I have all my AVIs file, I can use them with ZS4.

No, I'm not importing

No, I'm not importing straight from DVD. I have them as (either MPEGs or MOVs, I can't remember which) but how do you bring them in to edit them?

Hi, here is the answer:

Hi,

here is the answer: (http://www.zs4.net/manual-import-media-files)

There are two steps to importing a file.  The first is selecting the
file and the second is bringing it (or a selection of it) into the
project.

To select a file, either use the file tab at the
top, visible when the program starts up, or use the browse button,
located at the bottom left.  If the file is ZS4 readable, it should
appear in the import tab.  If the file has audio and has not previously
been imported, it may take a few minutes to draw the audio wave form.

To import the file or selection into the project, drag the green arrow
into the track display or the treeview. Dragging a track onto another
track makes it a child track of that track.

I've also created some time ago a video tutorial for another thing but you'll be able to see how to import your video sequence in live:

So, I can see in the video, that you use the file tab to go to the file and select it... (this is the bit that doesn't work) and it appears in the 'import' tab. When I do it on my computer, it opens the import tab, but there's no file. Not even after a few minutes. I left my computer for a couple of hours and (it was a pretty small file, and) it still hadn't worked.

What am I doing wrong?

Codec problem

If nothing appears in the import tab, that mean that the codec of your video files aren't recognized :-(
Try convert them with avidemux in XVID (that's what I'm using with a high bitrate for a least loss of quality)
